CFL spectrum is so awful and old ones so slow to brighten up that I've had to go back to some incandescent ones, albeit halogen so a bit more efficient (28 W =40W; 42 W =60W). Older eyes like mine need a good white light. .... They aren't great, but they've been in here for a few years, keep my rooms bright, and even illuminate my outside yard like a landing strip in summer. I couldn't afford to do that with LED (or pay for the power with incandescents). ... 7 Feb 2010

Unfortunately they did not list the color temp on my 40w 'Bright Effects' bulb from Lowes... does anyone know it? Though, this seems to tell us that most everything that isn't 'daylight' is nearer to red and more for flowering. ... n:Vision 40W soft white, 60W soft & bright white spiral CFL's from Home Depot. The bright white's are a bit too blue for my tastes but that is not really a fault of the bulb.
